The history of Sports Massage can be traced back to Roman Times but the modern day version we use today can be traced back to around the time of the Olympic Games of 1924.
Sports massage is a specialized form of massage therapy using a number of techniques to manipulate soft tissues and reduce muscle tightness. It helps to improve your circulation and range of movement, as well as treating and preventing muscle and joint pain.
This form of massage focuses on areas of the body that are overused and stressed from repetitive and often aggressive movements. Over time, the techniques and benefits of sports massage have extended beyond athletes to include anyone who suffers day to day with aches, pains and tight muscles.

Resting after a sports massage is recommended and avoid sports/gym for a minimum of 48hrs to allow the muscles to recover after treatment. You may feel a bit tender in the treated areas for a few days after treatment. Staying hydrated pre a post treatment is also recommended.

How often you need a Sports Massage will be case dependant. Regular appointments are recommended if you are often pushing your body physically.
I am not registered with any private health insurance providers. It is rare for insurance companies to cover sports massage treatments, however. I would check your policy or check with your private health insurance provider as some insurance companies will cover sports massage. I have a small number of clients whose policies do cover this treatment therefore it is worth checking your individual policy.
